Everything is quiet, tense. The judge is watching, the jury is waiting, and then—someone takes the stand. A witness. They’re not speaking secondhand rumors or opinions—they’re telling you what they ‘saw’ and what they ‘witnessed’. Their words carry weight because they lived it.

That’s the power of a testimony.

Now, let’s shift scenes a bit—from a courtroom to a garden tomb. From cold law to divine grace. The resurrection of Jesus wasn’t just a rumor passed around; it was ‘witnessed’. And in Luke 24, we get a front-row seat to see how the truth refused to stay buried.

Let’s look at four testimonies that stand up and shout: Jesus is alive!

Testimony #1: The Witnesses Testified to the Truth (vv. 13–27)

You’ve got these two, walking along the road to Emmaus. They’re heartbroken, confused, talking about everything that just happened. Then this “stranger” joins them and asks what they’re discussing.

They spill their guts. “We had hoped He was the one to redeem Israel…” You can almost hear the disappointment in their voices.

But Jesus doesn’t leave them there. He starts walking them through Scripture—from Moses to the prophets—connecting the dots. He shows them that everything they just lived through had been part of the plan all along.

These guys had witnessed the crucifixion. Now, unknowingly, they’re witnessing the resurrected Christ walking beside them. And soon, their eyes are opened.

The truth was too big to keep quiet. Word started spreading. The tomb was empty, and Heaven wasn’t about to let the news stay hidden.

Testimony #2: The Word Testified to the Truth (v. 28)

Jesus let the Word do the talking.

He took them through Scripture to show how everything pointed to Him. That’s powerful. Because while experiences can fade or be doubted, the Word of God stands forever.

There’s something deeply reassuring about the Bible confirming what we know to be true: that God isn’t done, that death wasn’t the end, and that He keeps His promises.

This wasn’t just a moment of comfort for two grieving disciples. This was a declaration: God’s Word testifies to the truth of the resurrection. Every page whispers His name.

Testimony #3: The Works Testified to the Truth (vv. 29–31)

The two disciples beg Jesus to stay for dinner—still not knowing who He really is. And then, as they sit down to eat, He breaks the bread… and “bam”! Their eyes are opened.

That moment—something about the way He did it—triggered recognition.

It wasn’t just what He said, it was what He did.

Jesus’ actions, His kindness, His presence, His work—those testified to the truth just as clearly as His words did.

Sometimes, the way He moves in our lives—opens a door, sends encouragement at the right moment, restores something we thought was lost—that becomes our testimony. His works still speak.

Testimony #4: The Wounds Testified to the Truth (vv. 38–40)

Later, when Jesus appears to the disciples, they’re terrified. They think they’re seeing a ghost. But Jesus says, “Look at My hands and feet. It’s Me.”

He doesn’t hide the scars. He shows them.

Why? Because the wounds tell a story.

They scream: “This is what love looks like.”

They say: “Death lost.”

One writer put it beautifully: “The scars on the hands of Jesus will be the only thing in heaven made by human hands.”

Those scars weren’t signs of defeat—they were proof of victory! Proof that Jesus bore it all… and came back with the keys to life and death.

Wrap Up: The Truth Will Not Be Silenced

Luke 24 reads like a courtroom drama where witness after witness takes the stand, and every voice, every scar, every word, every miracle echoes the same verdict:

Jesus is alive!

And the truth? It won’t be silenced. Not by death. Not by fear. Not by doubt.

So here’s the question: what’s your testimony?

Because the world still needs to hear. And maybe, just maybe, your story is the one that helps someone else see the truth for the first time.

Testify.

Picture this: You’re sitting in a courtroom.
